Remembering Earthquake in Armenia

The opening bulletin of the newsletter of the St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church:

"The world woke up this morning to the disturbing news that a powerful earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Japan, rattling buildings in Tokyo and setting off a small tsunami. Ironically on this very day 22 years ago, we heard the devastating news of an earthquake that struck in the northern region of Armenia. On December 7, 1988 at 11:41 local time the Armenian towns of Gyumri, Spitak, Stepanavan, and Kirovakan were completely devastated. 45,000 people were killed, 15,000 were injured and 517,000 people became homeless.
Today, on the 22nd anniversary of the Armenia earthquake we pray for the souls of the victims. May God keep us all away from both natural and man made disasters."

Amen.
