The American magazine Forbes published a ranking of the richest people for 2019, which included the American Armenian Caroline Rafaelian.
The magazine calls Rafaelian the richest jeweler in the United States and estimates her wealth at $ 1 billion. It is noted that the Armenian woman earned money on her own thanks to a successful jewelry business. Caroline Rafaelian was born in 1966 in the United States to a family of refugees from Western Armenia. The girl's father founded a jewelry company in the United States in the year of her birth. After graduating college in Los Angeles, Caroline continued her father's business and became a jewelry designer.
In 2004, Rafaelian founded her own company Alex & Ani (named after the daughters of businesswomen). The company has created a series of unique jewelry in the form of zodiac signs, gaining fame and popularity across America. The most successful series, according to businesswomen, was the decorations in the form of the Statue of Liberty.
The small business of an American Armenian woman gradually grew into a large one. In 2015, the annual turnover of Caroline Rafaelian was 230 million, and a year later it was half a billion dollars. More than 70 Alex&Ani stores were opened across the country.
Besides the jewelry business, Rafaelian owns Teas and Javas and Carolyn’s Sakonnet winery in RI. She owns an old cottage in Newport, known as Belcourt Castle. The house consists of 60 rooms.
Caroline Rafaelian is an active philanthropist - she has donated more than 30 million dollars to various programs, part of which to the Armenia Foundation. Since 2015, all Alex&Ani stores have started selling CAMP HAIASTAN bracelets, the proceeds from their sales go to the organization of educational camps for Armenian children in the United States.
