Finaly, we have a US President who stated: "We did not go to Afghanistan to nation-build. And it’s the right and the responsibility of the Afghan people alone to decide their future and how they want to run their country." Since my days in Afghanistan I have stated repeatedly that no one from outside could impose peace in Afghanistan unless the Afghans themselves come together and make peace in Afghanistan. All one has to do is to look at the history of Afghanistan. No foreign invader and occupier since the days of Alexander the Great has succeeded to stay for a long time in Afghanistan

Here is the information from the WHITE HOUSE, speaches and remarks

I was present at the Security Council meeting in February 2003, when US Secretary of State Colin Powell briefed the members, including using audiovisual tools, to prove his country’s evidence of Iraq’s weapons program. It turned out to be a lie. He expressed his regret in his book after he left his post as Secretary of State.
I worked closely with Ambassador Arria due to the fact that I was in charge of the Division of
the Security Council Affairs in the UN Secretariat.
