Biography of Armenian businessman: Sarkis Izmirlian

Sarkis Izmirlian - From Peanut Empire to Global Real Estate Sarkis Izmirlian is one of the most prominent Armenian businessmen in the world, heir to the renowned Armenian Izmirlian family based in Geneva, Switzerland.

The family business dates back to 1902 in Sudan, in cotton farming and oilseed exports. After nationalization in 1970, his father Dikran Sarkis Izmirlian moved the base to Geneva. Over five decades, the group became the world's largest processor and exporter of peanuts, with plants in the US, Africa and Latin America, earning the title "Peanut King" in European press.

Sarkis started young and after university expanded into major real estate. In 2005, a family company acquired MORE LONDON - the iconic 13-acre (5.26 ha) office complex fronting the Thames and Tower Bridge, including London's City Hall.

In the late 2000s, he turned to the Bahamas with his flagship project Baha Mar Resort in Cable Beach, valued at $3.5 billion.

Since the 1988 earthquake, the family has been a major patron of Armenia. The Izmirlian Foundation was established in Yerevan in 1994, and the Sargis Izmirlian Medical Center opened in 2013. The family also funds Armenian churches, schools and cultural centers worldwide, and supports the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund and AGBU.
